Will's First Race

Tonight Will ran his first race!  There was a 2k offered for kids grades k-5.  I asked him if he wanted to run it and he did.  It was at the high school and the boys race was first.  There were no heats by grade, they all went together.  I must say, as a former cross country and track runner, my heart was beating a little quickly with excitement for Will!  It was SO CUTE.  He did great and more importantly, had a great time.

Getting ready to start...

My sweet boy after he finished the race, waiting to get thru the gate.

GOOD JOB WILL!

Archie and Dane

We have been watching my mom and Chuck's dog, Brinkley, and cat, Archie, for the past two weeks while they have been in Maine.  It is a crazy time of year for us to begin with because Luke is working a ton (gone all week and some weekends too) and I've been working weekends at Oktoberfests so it's been crazy to say the least.  And kind of like a zoo, with 3 dogs, 2 cats and 2 boys.  Amid all the craziness though, it's impossible not to see how sweet the boys are with all of them.  Will and Brinkley have an especially sweet bond, and have for a couple of years.  Brinkley sleeps with Will every night and they play together - it's very cute.  This visit Dane has also developed a sweet bond with Archie.  Archie is almost as big as Dane, and I've worried that he might get annoyed with Dane and take a swipe or a bite out of him. But he hasn't, and it is obvious that Archie loves Dane.  He lets him carry him around, dance with him, sing to him, lay with him, the list goes on and on.  And Archie just goes with the flow.

Last night I was helping Will with his homework at the bar and heard Dane singing and walking around.  After a few minutes of it I looked up and saw that he was dancing with Archie.  I got part of it on video, and this is just a perfect example of what Dane does with him and how easygoing Archie is with it.  Please excuse Dane's nighttime Pull-Up and also at the end Rosco gets upset at the conflict. (he cannot stand any wrestling or fighting :)  But it's so sweet you can see Archie nudge Dane's face, which is a sign of affection and him claiming his territory.

What Was That?

Dane was at my office today and he was in the kids room watching a movie and eating his lunch.  He was watching BINGO.  About the dog.  I was working and just happen to hear what I thought was the little boy in the movie say a bad word.  So I went into the room and rewound the movie, trying to find the place where he said what I thought he said.  I kept trying to find the place, going forward and backward and Dane asked what I was doing.  I told him I thought I heard him say something and I just wanted to see.  Dane said "He said holy shit."

I started laughing and said that's what I thought he said.  I said you know that's a bad word and you can't say it right?  He said yes.  And that was that.
