Adventures at the ER
Well, today was one of those days. I picked Will up from preschool and his teacher told me Will had fallen. She said he had fallen into a chair in the classroom. He was already getting a bruise just over his left eye. We get home and have lunch. After that the boys went downstairs to play. I heard someone crying and I assumed it was Dane. On my way downstairs I realized it was Will, which really alarmed me. He was crying HARD and I knew something was wrong. As soon as I got downstairs I saw that he was holding his head and there was blood running down his face. I rush him into the bathroom and see that he has a pretty good gash in his head. Apparently he was bouncing on his ball that you sit on and hold onto the handle between his legs and he bounced right into the corner of the wall with his head. I see that it definitely merits a trip to the ER. So we load up and head to Bloomington. Fortunately (for us) my mom was at the hospital today getting some X-Rays on her neck (she may have to have surgery to relieve a pinched nerve) so she met us in the waiting room and helped watch Dane. After almost 2 hours of sitting around waiting to be called back, I was getting really frustrated. I felt like I had a fireball inside me and nothing to do with it. I was so angry, my little boy with a cut on his head and nobody looking at it. I peeked at it and his hair was drying inside the cut. I was just imagining his hair caked in there and it being so painful when they finally tried to clean it. I was angry. I called his Pediatrician's office and told them what was going on. They said to bring him right over that Dr. Moore would see him. Actually, they said to always bring him there first, that the ER is horrible about making you wait and they would always fit him in. Here I thought I was doing the best thing for him by taking him to the ER. I was so angry. Lesson learned. So Dr. Moore ended up gluing it together. He said he could put in stitches but then we would have to come back to get them taken out and that he thought glue would hold it just fine. He was explaining all about the glue and how it would eventually flake off ... I told him we'd been glued before. So now Will has been glued twice on his head, but fortunately no stitches yet - which was his main concern (shots). He was so brave. He barely cried at all and did such a great job. I'm so proud of my big boy.

Payton Update
Will: Soccer is going great. He is doing so well. He listens to his coaches, follows directions, volunteers. I couldn't be more proud of him. School is also going really well. He hops out of the car by himself now and the aide walks him in.!. He is tracing words and lines really well. His teacher tells me he is a joy to have in the class and that he's doing great. I'm still perplexed by his slow learning of colors. Most all of the kids his age know their colors and we work on them ALL the time. His class even had a "red" day. All the kids wore red shirts and took a red object for show and tell. At lunch right after school I asked him what color his shirt was (knowing that they emphasized that everyone had on a red shirt, yada yada) and I was looking forward to him getting it right. He said "blue!" I threw up my hands in the air. Times like that make me wonder if he's just being difficult and doing it on purpose. Tonight he told me that something was "red like a banana." aye aye aye. If I didn't know, for 100% sure, that he was such a smart, observant, intelligent little boy I would be worried. But he is, so I'm not. I do have a friend whose daughter was the same way, just took a long time to learn colors. I guess Will's just rounding out the curve to pull up the average. Somebody's gotta do it, right!?
Dane: Growing SO fast! Makes me sad. Definitely turning from a baby into a toddler. Running around, saying so many words. Insisting on using a fork and spoon - I can't remember if the video posted or not of the very first time he insisted on using one. He says all kinds of words and tries to repeat a ton of what I say. If I'm calling for Will, he does too. He has learned to say "paci" (or some version of it) which has made huge strides in our communication. He's very good at saying "no way!" Would that be considered a sentence? If so, that's his first one. He also answers for Will. Say we're in the car, I might ask Will if he wants to have a sandwich for lunch - Dane, in a high voice, says "nooooooooooo!" It's so funny. He's also good at saying "mine!" When we take a shower (sorry tmi) a lot of times Will walks over to the drain and pees. When I put Dane in the shower I'll say "Dane go pee-pee!!" and about 1/3 of the time he will. (considering our potty training experience with Will I believe I might get a break with #2 - at least I'm hoping! and it's looking good so far) He can point to his hair, his feet, his eyes, his mouth and his nose. (he usually sticks his finger up it) And finally his teeth came in! And it's a good thing those suckers popped through because I've been blaming his occasional poor attitude and fussiness (to put it lightly) on "he's teething!" (my little angel wouldn't be fussy like this for no reason!!) He's had his front 8 forever. I knew his molars were going to come in soon because his gums have been red and bulging for at least a month. And I do know they've really been bothering him. A couple of weeks ago finally one came in. And then, from this past Friday to today (his last 2 came in today) he had 7, yes SEVEN, teeth come in!! In 5 days!!! And today, his last bottom molar came in (along with an eye tooth on the bottom, whatever those are called) and it was a bloody mess. I'm not kidding - Mother Of The Year story: we were brushing our teeth together this morning and when I finished I took his tooth brush and put it away. He started screaming, which isn't too out of the ordinary since it's one of his newest favorite activities (standing at the sink putting water on his toothbrush, in his mouth, water on the toothbrush, in his mouth, fake spit, giggle in the mirror, repeat, repeat 50 times). It's very cute. Until we've been in the bathroom for 25 minutes. I went into the kitchen and let him continue his tantrum. Finally after a minute or two I went back in, since he was still screaming, and there was blood on the carpet! I rushed him in to the bathroom and discovered blood on the tub and tile around the bath. Coming from his mouth and he apparently had used the toothbrush to get those last 2 to come in. There was this blood clot looking thing on his gum and it was definitely split. Poor thing!! Tonight, a shiny white tooth! I never remember anything like that with Will, he would just spike a 103+ fever and then a day later have a new tooth.
Life: We had our hog roast this past weekend. It was so much fun and so many of our friends and family were able to make it. As always, it was great to see everyone and the food was delish! My birthday was last Thursday and I was kind of bummed out Luke was still in Ohio. On Friday morning he surprised me by waking me up with a cake and candles and a lovely assortment of LUSH products! We also had a date night that night and went to see The Help, which I've been really wanting to see and to dinner and drinks with our friends Pamala and Chad. It was so nice.
