Spring Break 2015

The boys and I came up for spring break with my mom this year. It's cold, although not as cold as some years past, but just as wonderful as always.  We took a walk today. The lake is so beautiful and icy.

3rd Nine Weeks

Look at this big boy. I'm so proud of him. Every day he goes to school with the best attitude. So happy. At the end of every day he jumps off the bus and races up to the house with the biggest grin.  He got his repot card this week and did well.  He got an A+ in spelling, a B in math and a C in reading. (Which a C is 85-77%...so crazy to me)  On his report card his teacher wrote "He's a very bright boy that is always so happy everyday." I told him having an attitude like that is the most important thing. It will take him the farthest. I'm so proud of this sweet boy!

My Boys Are Growing Too Fast

It's not often these two bathe together anymore. Will prefers showers now. But the other day they did and every time it happens now, I can't help myself from wondering Will this be the last time?

This Sweetie

This little sweetie! He brought me downstairs, had me sit on the couch with my book, a warmed up rice bag, and a glass of wine, took off my socks and gave me a foot massage. For no reason. As I was singing his praises, he said "Is this one of the best days of your life?"  Love him so much!

Daneism

Dane still says the cutest things!  I will be sad when he says everything correctly.  Instead of saying sew he will say yarn. For example: "Nana is going to yarn my duck".  He also still calls our alarm system the alometer.  "Is the alometer on?"

His way of speaking is different, he chooses different ways to say things all the time and I absolutely love it.

Last night Will had his first soccer practice.  While we were waiting, Dane was playing on the playground nearby.  There was another little girl there and they played together.  I could hear them talking and I heard him ask her "How many are you?"  She said "How OLD am I?"  He knows that's how you typically ask someone how old they are; he's asked that question all the time, he just chooses to ask it by saying How many are you?   Later while they were trying to figure out what to play she asked him if he wanted to play gymnastics.  He replied: "I don't know jernastics"

Today he was sitting on the couch with Reesy and they were playing tug with a bone.  She was growling at him (playfully, but I still don't like it) so I gave him a warning to take it easy.  He said "We're just playing tuggle."

We were giving his friend from school a ride the other day and they were talking about how old they both are and when their birthdays are.  Dane asked him "what's yours called?"  Meaning the actual date.

Instead of asking for the pieces of smaller pickles that were in the jar he asked for the "chopped pickles."

Dane: "Will you take my temperature?"
Me: "Sure"
Dane: (as I'm getting the thermometer)  "If it's not a temperature, it's a sore leg."

He continues to say things like: "My eyeballs aren't tired"  "My tummy said it doesn't want that" "My teeth don't want to chew right now"

These are just a few that I can think of off the top of my head in the past few days.  Love these little things.

Laundry assistant

Dane has been helping me fold laundry. Mainly towels and he really does a great job! And is so proud of his work; it's really cute.

Consequence

Tonight was Danes last basketball game. He had a great season and learned so much. And most importantly had a great time and looked forward to it each week. Tonight after the game (I had to leave early to go to a meeting,  so luke and Papaw brought him home) they took him to get a celebratory milkshake. But only if he promised to eat his dinner. I made soup in the crock pot so once we were all home we ate dinner. But not Dane; he hardly touched his.  After dinner I told him that his consequence for not eating is that next time we get dessert before dinner... ice cream after a game or whatever,  that he won't be able to. He'll have to save it until after he finishes his dinner. He said "wellllllllll.  (long pause)   At least I didn't lose electronics."

I'll go ahead and add a notch in the Consequence Failure column.

Coloring

Dane, left. Will, right. Not bad at all for two little boys who have NEVER liked to stop and sit down and color.  Dirt and grass are much more fun.  So I'm always impressed when they actually take the time to color a picture.  They do a great job!

Coconut!

My mom and Chuck brought the boys a coconut from Florida. Dane thinks it's pretty darn cool and loves to carry it around. He's taking it for show and tell at school tomorrow. He also discovered you can hear the coconut milk inside it when he shakes it! Pretty cool.
